| dc.description.notes | This dissertation considers possible e-commerce business models to apply to a local genealogy initiative, the British Settlers in Natal Project. This is a research project by a local historian called Shelagh Spencer. It studies the first wave of British immigration to Natal. Seven volumes of biographical entries have been published in series called British Settlers in Natal: 1824-1857 - A Biographical Register. The dissertation considers the creation of an e-commerce business model for this project. The market for the work is investigated through various means, chiefly by the use of a questionnaire on the project's website http://www.shelaghspencer.co.za. A number of possible business models are considered and after analysis of the survey results two possible models are suggested. Best practice in building a web site is discussed, and then best practice in building an e-commerce web site is considered. After that two examples of highly successful ecommerce web sites are considered. All these examples of best practice are benchmarked against both the current business model and the proposed future business models. | en_US |
