dc.description.abstractThe research opens with an introduction which develops and presents the argument that the clown is a necessary and suitable image of modern man- A general history is presented in which the evolution of the clown is traced within the society and culture. The symbol of the clown in art is traced from the etchings of Cal lot in; the 17th century to the work of Rouault and Picasso in the 20th century. The research concludes with a look at the candidate own work on the clown theme.en_US
