Abstract
Employee relationship management can be referred to as the relationship of development and
management between an employer and its employees. There are various aspects that can
impact an employee’s job satisfaction, including employee relationship management.
Employee relationship management regarding South African employees within the retail
industry is increasingly becoming a major concern. While numerous studies have been
undertaken regarding retailers and customers, they have not considered the employees and
their job satisfaction.
This study is specifically aimed at identifying how employee relationship management at
Boxer Superstores Head Office influences job satisfaction. This study endeavours to
establish if the strategies that have been implemented with regard to employee relationship
management can enhance its employees’ job satisfaction.
A mixed method research approach was used. A questionnaire and in-depth interview
schedule were used to gather information from the Boxer Superstore Head Office employees.
The overall findings identified that the safety/health, communication, career development and
compensation strategies that have been employed at Boxer Superstores do have an influence
on the employees’ job satisfaction.
