Item An investigation into the tonal system of Zulu, with special reference to nouns.(1956) Cope, Anthony Trevor. No abstract available.Item An analytical survey of Zulu poetry both traditional and modern.(1959) Kunene, Raymond Mazisi.; Malcolm, M.; Cope, Anthony Trevor. No abstract available.Item Zulu phonology, tonology and tonal grammar.(1966) Cope, Anthony Trevor.; Krige, Eileen Jensen.Zulu belongs to the Nguni group of the Southern Bantu languages, which are spoken throughout Southern Africa. Other groups are the Suthu and the Shona, which are spoken in the interior, whereas the Nguni languages are spoken towards the south-east coast, Xhosa in the eastern part of the Cape Province, Zulu in Natal and Zululand, and Swazi in Swaziland. Swazi represents a distinct variety of Nguni speech known as "tekela", characterized by t in place of Zulu and Xhosa z, ts or tf and dz or dv in place of Zulu and Xhosa t and d, and by other phonetical characteristics, but Zulu and Xhosa are so similar that they are linguistically dialects of the same language. However, they have important separate literatures and are generally regarded as separate languages. For these reasons and for the more real reason that it is in tonal structure that they differ most greatly, this study excludes Xhosa and concentrates on Zulu only.Item Some aspects of the nature and incidence of stuttering among Indian primary school children in Durban.(1971) Jithoo, Roychand.; Sneddon, Elizabeth.Stuttering has been a complex problem ever since the early history of man. It has been found to exist in some cultures to a greater extent than in others. In certain primitive cultures the phenomenon of stuttering was reported to be unknown, yet when members of these cultures were influenced by western environments some incidence of stuttering occurred among them. The influence of the environment therefore cannot be disregarded when considering causes of stuttering. Although much research has been done by speech pathologists among various world cultures they have by no means completed their task for there are many groups, living in a variety of societies, which are yet to be studied. The present rudimentary investigation into stuttering among Indians living in Durban may be regarded as a contribution to the knowledge that has already been accumulated.Item A comparative study of the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and Herbert Marcuse with regard to their attitudes towards the culture of their particular epochs.(1972) Singh, Ratnamala.; Rauche, Gerhard A.Abstract available in the PDF.Item Studies in structure : an analysis of four of the novels of George Eliot.(1973) Cahill, Audrey Fawcett.; Sands, Raymond. No abstract available.Item Aspects of architecture in Natal, 1880-1914.(1975) Hillebrand, Melanie.; Van Niekerk, R.No abstract available.Item The teaching of western music to Indian primary school children in Natal.(1976) Lutge, Marie Elizabeth.; Oehrle, Elizabeth Dittmar. No abstract available.Item Les Illuminations d'Arthur Rimbaud : genese, analyse et problematique.(1978) Verstraete, Daniel Andre Jean.; Tricaud, Marie-Louise.No abstract available.Item Item Tonality in the first book of Debussy's preludes(1978) Stern, Jennifer Carol.; Parker, Beverly Lewis. This paper attempts to explore the extent to which Rudolph Reti's concepts of melodic and harmonic tonality are useful in describing Debussy's Preludes. It is hoped that this work will provide a basis for the examination and comparison of various other musical compositions, representative of different styles, in terms of tonality.Item A new species of writing : a study of the novels of Samuel Richardson.(1978) Lenta, Margaret Mary.; Edgecombe, Terence. No abstract available.Item A preliminary survey of Zulu dialects in Natal and Zululand.(1979) Kubeka, Isaac Sibusiso.; Cope, Anthony Trevor. No abstract available.Item Some aspects of the dynamic process of creativity with special reference to the choreographer and director in the theatre.(1979) Hagemann, Frederick. No abstract available.Item Considerations in the realization of an oboe concerto : an oboist's viewpoint.(1979) Saunders, Robin Estridge. This thesis is divided into three main sections. Part I concerns general aspects of performance, whilst Part II deals specifically with performance aspects of the Double Concerto for Oboe, Harp and Strings by Hans Werner Henze. Part III is a summary and conclusion of Parts1 and 11. It is hoped that this thesis will provide both a fresh approach to performance in general and also to the performance of Henze's double concerto. I have chosen to discuss aspects of Henze's double concerto, because of its significance as a major oboe concerto in the repertoire and the demands it makes on the oboist both as interpreter and technician.Item Item In a manner of speaking : some aspects of structure, including narration, in the novels of Elizabeth Gaskell.(1980) Daymond, Margaret Joan.No abstract available.Item Music of numbers [printed music] : nine pieces for two players and pianoforte.(1981) Solomon, Ian Bernard. No abstract available.Item Lyricism and disintegration in Gustav Mahler's vocal works.(1981) Harris, Valerie Merle. No abstract available.Item The international novel : a study of its origins and emergence as a genre in nineteenth century American fiction.(1982) Maltz, Minna Anne Herman.; Sands, Raymond. No abstract available.
